Shin Lok Kopitiam at Jalan Gopeng, Klang

Today decided to find some eateries around Klang town after my daughter's rehearsal day in Stadium Sultan Suleiman.

Decided to frequent this old kopitiam - Shin Lok Kopitiam located in Jalan Gopeng, Klang. This kopitiam is located in the Klang town very nearby to Ko Skin Specialist. It is a pork free restaurant.

Apparently the claim on Google is they have yummy yam puffs and vegetable pau. As it is lunch time, we also ordered some mains - Hainanese Chicken Chop and American Breakfast. We ordered a Yam Puff for sharing. Just to try out before deciding if we like it. I asked to take away a Vege Pau for dad since he really enjoys Pau.

The yam puff is really good. Flaky on the outside and strong yam flavor. The filling is the usual chicken char siew filling in sweet BBQ sauce. We like it. The only difference of this yam puff compared to those we usually had at dim sum restaurant would be the taste. This has a stronger 5 spice powder taste in its puff skin. Wanted to tapau 3 more for my family but they were already sold out by then (about 2.30pm).

The Hainanese Chicken Chop and American Breakfast is so-so. The chicken chop is fried until quite crispy, and inside still juicy. The sauce and condiments are just "usual". Nothing to shout out for. The American breakfast is also very mediocre.

I regret not checking out what the other tables had before I ordered my food. It seems the crowd favourite is the hot plate Yee mee and also the sang har (river prawn) noodles. They sure smell good. I made a mental note to try it next time.

The Vege Pau bought for my dad is good too - according to dad. He said it is similar to the Pau skin that my late mom used to make - soft but slightly QQ (springy), moist and a little sweet. The filling - consist of stir fried jicama is flavorful too.

Overall, I think it is a good try. I might just come back again for its yam puff, hot plate noodles and Vege Pau.

Other things you guys may consider ordering is the nyonya zhang (glutinous rice dumpling) and red bean pau. Saw a few patrons ordering that or for their take away. As for drinks, many ordered their milk tea and kopi.

My rating for this kopitiam would be as below (out of 5 stars):

Cleanliness - 🌟🌟 (it is a very old kopitiam. The waiter/ waitresses didn't bother to come wipe the table clean). No musty smell, but interior is pretty worn out.

Parking / accessibility - 🌟🌟 (not difficult to find using Waze, but be wary that this area is very crowded on weekdays and not easy to find a parking. I am lucky to find a parking just infront of the kopitiam today)

Food quality - 🌟🌟🌟 not too bad.

Service - 🌟 (this is the only thing I don't really like. The waitress looks very "feelingless". Looks like they are so demotivated and there is no slightest sight of smile. When I asked them question about what is good they are not really able to answer too. What a shame for this shop to have such service quality. They probably have worked for a very long time and has lost the passion to work. My own guess. 😜😜

Price- 🌟🌟🌟 (price for the Vege Pau is RM1.20 each, yam puff at RM2.60 each, Hainanese Chicken Chop is RM13.90 and American Breakfast at RM10.90. They are reasonable to me).

Ambience - 🌟 they have an aircond that looks rickety and almost don't feel like it is working on this hot weather. A few ceiling fans around but still feel very warm.

If you are around the area, you may give their signature dishes and pastry/ Pau a try. But just visit for their food, not for the ambience. It is a place that you may want to have your food and then leave. The waiter and waitresses doesn't look like they welcome people who sit and loiter around for long. Lol.

Here's some photos for your view.
